Russian forces target residential areas with drone strikes

According to UATV: On July 21, 2023, Russian troops launched a series of drone attacks on residential neighborhoods in the cities of Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy, leaving multiple civilians injured. In Sumy, a guided drone struck a nine-story apartment building, wounding six people—four of them children. In Kharkiv, five individuals sustained injuries, including a 12-year-old child.

In the Chernihiv region, a 70-year-old woman was hurt after a drone crashed nearby. Residential houses in Chernihiv and Novhorod-Siverskyi were also destroyed by fire. Meanwhile, in Sumy, shelling triggered a massive blaze at a shopping center. As firefighters worked to contain the flames, Russian forces carried out repeated follow-up strikes, severely hampering rescue operations.

Ongoing crisis in Ukraine

These attacks highlight the severe dangers civilians face amid the ongoing conflict and underscore the urgent need to protect non-combatants.

The situation across Ukraine remains highly volatile, with such strikes on civilian infrastructure signaling a further escalation of hostilities and growing threats to the population. It is critical that the international community prioritizes human rights protections and ensures the safety of innocent residents suffering from the violence. In light of these events, the demand for humanitarian aid and support for victims is becoming increasingly pressing.
