Russian Tourists Stranded in Qatar as Cruise Ship Orders Them Off Amid Middle East Conflict.
Russian Passengers Forced to Disembark Cruise Ship in Qatar
According to Novyny.live: More than 200 Russian tourists have been ordered to leave the cruise ship Celestyal Journey, which has been stuck in Qatar since February 28th due to the war in the Middle East. As of March 7th, these passengers remain onboard with no clear way to get home. They have been told they can stay on the vessel only until 8:00 AM on March 7th. The ongoing conflict has severely disrupted travel across the region, leaving many visitors stranded.
The ship was originally scheduled to sail to Dubai on March 2nd, where the voyage was to conclude, but that leg of the journey was canceled because of the security situation. Across the Middle East, an estimated 50,000 Russian tourists are currently attempting to find routes back to Russia.
Widespread Air Travel Disruptions
Compounding the problem, the airline Emirates has denied boarding to Russian passengers on a flight from the Maldives to Dubai. Tourists caught in this predicament have expressed their frustration. One stated:
“We have been abandoned. Flights are canceled, the airport in Qatar is closed, and there is no way to get to Dubai.” - source unknown
This highlights the severe difficulties Russian tourists are facing throughout the Middle East. The situation remains tense, with limited options for a safe return home, forcing travelers to seek their own solutions.
This incident underscores how geopolitical conflicts can abruptly disrupt tourism and personal mobility. With flights canceled and routes blocked, Russian tourists are confronting major challenges that require urgent action from both government authorities and travel companies. It is critical for the relevant officials to provide necessary support for citizens stranded abroad in such difficult circumstances.
