Russian 'Gerbera' Drone Crashes in Moldova Without Warhead.
Drone Incident in Moldova
According to UATV: A Russian 'Gerbera' type drone, which was not equipped with an explosive warhead, has crashed in a district of Moldova. A local hunter discovered the downed aircraft. This marks the second recent incident where Russian drones have entered Moldovan airspace. Previously, another drone crashed onto the roof of a building in a rural area.
Moldovan Foreign Ministry's Response
Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the incident, linking it to Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, which it states threatens the security of Moldovan citizens. These events occur as Moldova, a non-NATO state bordering Ukraine, maintains a delicate geopolitical position. Notably, in late December 2025, a Russian reconnaissance drone also crashed in Turkey, constituting a third such incident within a single week.
These episodes highlight a worsening regional situation and raise security concerns for neighboring nations.
The increasing activity of Russian drones in border areas risks escalating regional tensions. In responding to these threats, Moldovan authorities have reinforced their stance in support of Ukraine, a position that could further strain diplomatic relations with Russia. This pattern also alarms other neighboring countries, which may witness similar violations of their airspace in the future.
