Day 1,593 of Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion

According to UATV: On July 5, 2023, Ukraine marks 1,593 days since Russia launched its full-scale war. President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s air defenses are a top priority, stressing that Ukraine urgently requires additional missiles capable of intercepting ballistic threats. According to the president, this need is driven by Moscow’s plans to carry out fresh strikes on Ukrainian territory.

The Critical Role of Air Defense

Zelensky underscored the importance of building robust air defense capabilities, stating:

“Today we continued our work to ensure we have air defense” – Volodymyr Zelensky
. He further emphasized that
“Missiles for the Patriots are a priority” – Volodymyr Zelensky
, highlighting the urgent requirement for advanced defense systems. The president noted that 'the world possesses the necessary quantity and quality of air defense,' calling for decisive action to provide real protection for lives in Ukraine.

In June 2023, nearly 30,000 confirmed strikes against Russian occupation forces were recorded on the front lines. Among Ukrainian defenders, the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center ranks first in the number of enemy losses inflicted. The president also stressed the importance of making clear to Ukrainian citizens living in occupied territories that the country’s goal is to make the continuation of occupation as difficult as possible for the enemy.

With ongoing hostilities and new threats from Russia, strengthening air defense remains critically important for safeguarding Ukrainian territory and civilian lives.

These remarks from the president signal Ukraine’s continued strategic focus on bolstering its defensive capabilities in response to Russian aggression. The push for modern air defense systems reflects not only military needs but also the imperative to protect civilians amid active combat. International partners’ support in this area could prove decisive in countering aggression.
