District of Odesa Targeted in Strike
According to Novyny.live: On January 22, 2023, Russian forces attacked the Odesa district using strike drones. One of these drones impacted a multi-story residential building between the 18th and 19th floors, damaging the facade and windows. Cars parked near the building were also damaged in the assault. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian port cities and civilian infrastructure.
Evacuation and Aftermath
An evacuation was ordered following the attack, leading to the safe removal of 58 people from the building, including 8 children. An air raid alert was issued around 01:14, with the all-clear given at 02:50. Oleg Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, commented on the consequences of this aggression.
This attack underscores the persistent threat faced by the civilian population in Ukraine, as shelling of residential areas continues, endangering the lives of peaceful citizens. - Oleg Kiper
Evacuation operations in such circumstances demonstrate the critical need for local emergency services to be prepared to respond to crises and protect civilians from potential threats. These incidents, which have drawn international condemnation, raise serious questions about the adherence to humanitarian norms in the conduct of warfare.
