2 million embezzled in UAV procurement - officials exposed.

In Kyiv region, a scheme for misappropriating budget funds during the procurement of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been uncovered. An official of a military unit and his accomplice have been notified of suspicion.

Detectives of the Territorial Bureau of Economic Security in Kyiv region, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), have identified an official of a military unit and his accomplice in misappropriating budget funds during the procurement of drones for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They have been notified of suspicion, and discussions are underway regarding the selection of preventive measures.

According to the investigation, the chief of the financial and economic service of one of the military units organized the misappropriation of budget funds, involving a private entrepreneur in this crime. This scheme allowed for the procurement of drones and their components at inflated prices.

According to the conclusions of court commodity and economic examinations, the cost of the purchased equipment was inflated by almost 2 million hryvnias.

As part of the pre-trial investigation, detectives of the BEB conducted searches at the residences of the subjects and in office premises. Evidence has been seized that confirms the suspects' involvement in illegal activities.

The organizer of the scheme and the executor have been notified of suspicion under Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Discussions are underway regarding the selection of preventive measures for the subjects of the criminal proceedings. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Previously, the former director of the Department of Social and Veteran Policy of the Kyiv City State Administration was taken into custody - he and a group of individuals embezzled over 75 million hryvnias.
