Zelensky appointed a new deputy head of the NSDC: what is known about Ostryansky

According to inkorr.com: President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Ruslan Khomchak from the position of the first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Instead, Major General Yevhen Ostryansky was appointed to this position, who previously held the position of deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov in an evening address on October 14.

Who is Yevhen Ostryansky

Yevhen Ostryansky has over 30 years of military service experience and is proficient in planning and defense management strategies. He will be responsible for the military sector within the NSDC structure.

“He will coordinate issues of interaction with the security and defense sector to strengthen our military, as well as prepare meetings of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters,” Umerov noted.

Umerov thanked Khomchak for his work in the NSDC

The NSDC secretary also expressed gratitude to Ruslan Khomchak for his service, professionalism, and contribution to strengthening national security.

The main changes in the NSDC structure include:

  • renewal of the leadership;
  • strengthening the military direction of the Council's work;
  • establishing coordination among law enforcement agencies.

Rustem Umerov, who prior to his appointment in the NSDC held the position of Minister of Defense, continues to oversee the defense sector. Earlier this month, he visited the USA with a delegation from the NSDC to discuss joint projects, including an agreement on the use of drones in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, it was recently announced that the NSDC had made a decision to maximize sanctions pressure on Russia to expedite the end of the war.

It is important to note that the changes in the NSDC indicate a desire to strengthen military coordination and ensure more effective management in the context of the ongoing conflict. The appointment of Yevhen Ostryansky reflects the state's intentions to enhance its defense capabilities and intensify cooperation with international partners.
