Shakalenė: Putin is just stalling
According to FREEДOM:
Today, August 29, Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė stated during an informal meeting in Copenhagen that pressure on Moscow is necessary to end Russia's war against Ukraine. She expressed hope that the United States would join in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, reports FREEДOM.
“Hopes for possible peace negotiations are, at least, naive when we see what is happening in Ukraine, what happened yesterday when dozens of people were killed in Kyiv, when diplomatic missions were bombed. Everything Putin does is actually just stalling. He is cheaply buying time to kill more people and simulate readiness to possibly stop his own killings,” said the head of Lithuania's defense ministry.
It should be noted that the executive director of the Center for Applied Political Studies “Penta,” Oleksandr Leonov, emphasized that it is currently important for discussions about a peace agreement and security guarantees to occur in parallel. It is clear that Russia cannot be a participant in security guarantees given its status as an aggressor.
It is important to realize that such statements emphasize the complexity of the situation in Ukraine and the need for international support. Pressure on Russia remains a key aspect for establishing peace, requiring efforts from Western partners and a unification of efforts to achieve stability in the region.
