SanDisk announces the world's first 256 TB SSD: a revolution for AI and cloud

The American company SanDisk has launched its new 256 terabyte SSD. This product is intended for enterprise users who operate with large volumes of data, such as cloud services or smart technologies. A version with 128 TB has also been released.

The SSD utilizes the new UltraQLC platform, combining high write density, stable performance, and reliability. Its size is U.2, featuring a new microcontroller, proprietary firmware, and 3D NAND BiCS8 memory at 2 TB.

One of the key features is the Direct Write QLC technology, which simplifies the process of writing data directly into QLC cells and increases resistance to power interruptions. This approach can weaken performance but remains reliable during prolonged writing.

Additionally, the SSD has received a Dynamic Frequency Scaling feature, which enhances performance without increasing power consumption. The drive has a special data preservation profile that helps reduce the wear of memory cells by 33%.

It is expected that the SSD models will appear on the market in the first half of 2026.
