SBU Nabs FSB Agent Plotting Kharkiv Attack: Explosives Details Revealed.
FSB Agent Apprehended in Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has detained a man recruited by Russia's FSB who was plotting a terrorist attack in Kharkiv by assembling homemade explosive devices. The suspect, an unemployed resident of the Kirovohrad region, received instructions from Russia to build two such devices using 12 kilograms of explosive material as the core.
The perpetrator intended to plant the completed explosives in central Kharkiv. At the time of his arrest, he was on a video call with a Russian intelligence officer, highlighting his active collaboration with foreign agents. During searches, authorities seized over 12 kilograms of explosives and mobile phones as part of the operation.
Legal Ramifications
SBU investigators have charged the detainee under Article 14, Part 1, and Article 258, Part 2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. He remains in custody without bail, facing up to 12 years in prison and asset confiscation. Notably, in March, the SBU arrested another Russian FSB agent in Kropyvnytskyi, who now faces a life sentence.
This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by Ukrainian law enforcement to counter threats from Russian intelligence services. It also underscores the critical need for cooperation between the SBU and international bodies in combating terrorism and extremism. The security situation in Ukraine remains tense, with such incidents highlighting the persistent activity of hostile agents within the country.
