The miniature railway in Somerset is being restored: what is known about the project.
Restoration of the miniature railway in Somerset
According to The Sun: After a long closure, the beloved miniature railway in Somerset may soon be operational again.
This railway was once a popular attraction in a coastal town known for having one of the country's most beautiful piers.

The council's website states that they intend to 'find an operator who can restore the miniature railway on the Salhouse fields.'
“Residents of Clevedon told us how important this miniature railway is to them — it’s a great example of how the council works with the community, service providers, and volunteers to enhance the lives of our residents,” said Councillor Mike Solomon.
Plans also include building a new shed, food and drink zones, mini-golf, and a children's playground.
The council's announcement details indicate that the lease will last for 35 years and commence in the spring of 2026.
The 15-inch gauge electric railway ran through the Salhouse fields, next to Clevedon's marine lake.
This railway holds significant historical value for the town, having opened in 1952 but recently remaining closed.
Currently, there is no railway on the Salhouse fields, but there are plenty of attractions for children, such as a skate park, children's playgrounds, tennis courts, and a bowling club.
Moreover, Clevedon's marine lake is open for swimmers, paddleboarders, and kayakers.

This location is popular among visitors: last year, the marine lake was recognized as one of the best natural swimming spots in the world.
The establishment opened in 1929 and features a wooden club, changing rooms, high diving boards, bathing cabins, deck chairs, and a stage.
Along Clevedon beach, there is a pier that was awarded the title 'Pier of the Year' in 2021.
This is the only pier in the country certified as Grade I, built in 1869.
Entry to the pier costs £6 for adults and £4 for children, while a family ticket is £15 (for 2 adults and up to 3 children).
There are no arcade machines on Clevedon pier, but there is a Glass Box restaurant with classic dishes, such as fish and chips.
At the end of the pier is a Victorian pagoda, where hot drinks can be purchased in winter, and ice cream in summer.
The Clevedon trading house offers a variety of goods — from toys to handmade souvenirs.
The pier is also known for its appearance in One Direction's music video for the song 'You & I' in 2014.
Additionally, this pier has been recognized as one of the best attractions in Europe.

The opening of new entertainment opportunities will increase interest from not only local residents but also visitors from other cities. Such restoration will become an important part of the development of the town's infrastructure and highlight its historical heritage. Read also
