Ukraine's Power Supply Crisis
According to Novyny.live: In an interview with RBC-Ukraine on January 15, Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko reported a worsening situation for Ukraine's electricity supply. He stated that some energy facilities have sustained damage so severe they are now impossible to restore. Kovalenko noted that the air temperature at the time of the interview was -17°C (-1°F). He also warned that freezing conditions are expected to persist for the next ten days.
A Grim Forecast for Electricity
Kovalenko offered a pessimistic forecast, indicating he is not confident of seeing significant improvements for weeks.
"We believe we need to hold on for weeks until the weather improves somewhat," said Serhiy Kovalenko.This outlook raises serious concerns about the stability of the power supply amid the deep freeze and the system's existing vulnerabilities. The current crisis stems not only from harsh weather but also from structural issues within the energy infrastructure, which have been exacerbated by recent attacks. The prolonged cold spell is likely to result in:
- Increased strain on the power grids;
- A further deterioration in electricity supply for both households and industry.
