With a victory of 14-12, Wright recounted that after a penalty kick two seconds before the end of the game, his team organized an attack that ended with his match-winning goal. In the first half of the match, one of the players, Matt Lees, left the field to be with his wife who was giving birth. Following that, coach Jean Velense received news in the 25th minute.
'The baby probably should be named Shane Wright,' joked the player who also left the match to be with his family.
Future Plans
Wright admitted he was ready to book tickets back to Australia, but due to the move to St Helens, he would have to stay for a few more weeks. 'I was almost ready to go home. Good thing I didn't book!' he said.
'I planned all this – my head was almost in Australia.'
Wright mentioned that his brother often called him, but now he would have to explain that returning home is not possible for the time being.
Upcoming Matches and Opportunities
Thanks to St Helens' success, Wright's team has an opportunity to continue in the playoffs, and they are preparing for the Super League semi-final against Hull KR. 'I live nearby, so I always see Old Trafford. And the moment of Shane Wright's goal at the finish of the match sounds good!' he added.
Matt Lees is expected to return to the game soon, but not as the father of Shane's baby, but as the father of daughter Sienna. Wright noted: 'I'm sure Matt and his partner had better names for the baby!'
Until joining St Helens, Wright faced nothing but uncertainty at Salford.
