Erica sustained a head injury from what was likely a drink can thrown from the crowd during four rounds of play on Saturday.

McIlroy recently scored a point for Team Europe along with Shane Lowry, after which he returned to support his teammates on the 17th hole.

When this happened, his wife was hit, and the couple quickly turned around, Erica looking at the crowd in disbelief.

McIlroy lost his patience and attempted to approach the aggressor, but security stopped him.

“Someone threw a drink at her!”

After security surrounded the couple, Rory wiped something off her hat and asked: “Are you okay?”

It is known that Erica was left in tears due to the insults.

Tears streamed down her face as she and McIlroy left the field, holding hands as he was concerned about how she was feeling.

Reaction from Rory

McIlroy also faced insults throughout the game with Lowry, and at one point refused to play until the crowd calmed down.

“Freedom!”

To this Rory replied: “Shut up!”

From the crowd came shouts of “Screw you, Rory,” as well as insults about his family and personal life.

McIlroy admitted that he was tired of the insults but added that he was “very pleased” that he scored 3.5 points and won at the Ryder Cup.

He also praised his wife for her strength and resilience in such tough circumstances.

“This should be banned, but obviously it wasn't this week,”
“Erica is fine. She is a very strong woman.”

“She has always carried herself with class, resilience, and dignity,”

“I love her, and we will celebrate tonight.”

As applause erupted among the Europeans, a close friend of Lowry remarked:

“I was there for two days with Erica McIlroy, and the amount of insults she received was staggering.”

“The way she supported her husband and the team was incredible, and much respect to her for that.”

McIlroy also became a target for insults regarding his past relationships and was mocked over rumors of an affair with golf journalist Amanda Balionis.

He and Erica split last year and even filed for divorce but later decided to be together again.

The incident at the Ryder Cup sparked widespread reaction in the sports community, highlighting the behavior of fans and the aggression that players may face during competitions. McIlroy and his wife's reaction demonstrates how important it is to have support during stressful situations, as well as educating society about the unacceptability of insults and violence at sporting events.
