Torero Serafín Marín suffered a horrific injury from a bull's horn in the arena in Madrid.
Terrible consequences for the bullfighter
According to The Sun: 42-year-old bullfighter Serafín Marín sustained horrific injuries during his first fight of the season. The incident occurred on Sunday at one of the largest bullfighting arenas in Madrid.
Dr Riveiro CeladaDuring the fight, Marín was performing the traditional veronica move when the bull lifted him into the air with its horn.
After that, he was thrown to the ground, and several other bullfighters rushed into the ring to divert the animal's attention.
“I didn't realize I had been injured until I got to the hospital,” he said.
Marín admitted that he was 'very stunned and dizzy from the blow to the head.' He also noted that he was 'completely surprised and couldn't react.'
Serafín Marín and his struggle
Serafín Marín has years of experience in bullfighting and is the last matador to perform in his native Catalonia, where bullfighting has been banned since 2012.
He had been preparing for the season all year and has now stated that he 'will mostly wait another year for fans to see that I still have a lot to say in martial arts.'
After the incident, Marín received medical assistance, and doctors confirmed that the bull's horn went through the outer part of his right thigh. He was operated on at the scene and then transported to Fraternidad Muprespa-Habana hospital in Chamartin.
Marín is currently experiencing 'great pain.'
Controversial traditions
Every year, thousands of bulls die during similar events across Europe, where animals suffer before being slaughtered. Two days before the incident, activists from PETA France were detained during the opening of a bullfight at Feria des Vendanges, protesting against this tradition.
“I wanted to join this action with PETA because watching images of bulls suffering to death during fights shocked me,” said one activist.
This situation has intensified discussions about the ethics of bullfighting and animal rights.
Tragic losses in the fight
The incident involving Marín occurred after the tragic death of 22-year-old bullfighter Manuel María Trindade, who died from an injury caused by a 700-kilogram bull in August. Trindade was attempting to grab the bull's horn when he was tossed into the air and struck the wall of the arena.
