At NATO Summit, Kyiv’s Offer Gives Putin a Way to Avoid Collapse, Says Ukraine’s Top Diplomat.
Statement by Andrii Sybiha at the NATO Summit
According to UATV: Speaking at a press briefing during the NATO summit in Ankara, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that the proposals currently on the table from Kyiv and its allies provide Russian President Vladimir Putin with an opportunity to avert a complete collapse. He also noted that the front-line situation has stabilized, signaling some positive developments in the ongoing military campaign.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine is effectively conducting asymmetric operations, which have significantly strengthened the country’s negotiating position.
“The proposals that Ukraine now has, with the backing of our allies, certainly give Putin a chance to end this war and essentially avoid a meltdown,” he added.
Heightened Tensions
These remarks came against the backdrop of Russian missile strikes on Ukraine that occurred both immediately before and during the NATO summit—underscoring the volatile security environment and the critical role of Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts on the global stage.
The significance of this statement lies not only in its reflection of Ukraine’s internal stance but also in the broader international context in which the fighting is taking place. The stabilization of the front line, combined with active diplomatic engagement, could prove decisive in shaping future negotiations and any potential peaceful resolution to the conflict. The mention of stability at the front may also indicate Ukraine’s readiness to continue defending its territorial integrity amid sustained external pressure.
