Trump demands negotiations from Putin and threatens new sanctions
Republican Senator Lindsay Graham stated on social media that US President Donald Trump may impose new sanctions against Russia if Vladimir Putin refuses to come to the negotiating table. He calls for an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine 'fairly and honestly'.
The senator commented on Putin's statement that Russia will not retreat and will choose a peace option that suits them. He emphasized that Putin is rejecting Trump's proposals.
Graham hopes that if Putin does not comply with the negotiations, Trump will impose more economic sanctions against Russia and, if necessary, apply tariffs. This action is expected to impact Russia's weak economy and force it to sit at the negotiating table.
Graham also noted that Ukraine has made important statements regarding a firearms ceasefire, a deal for resource extraction, and readiness for negotiations in the last 48 hours.
Previously, Trump ordered the preparation of a plan to lift energy sanctions against Russia.
