Marius Borg Høiby Receives Prison Sentence

According to Espreso.tv: A court in Oslo has handed down a four-year prison term to Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, for multiple offenses including rape and domestic violence. The verdict was delivered on June 16, following a trial that ran from February to March of this year. This case has drawn significant media attention due to Høiby’s royal family ties.

Høiby was convicted on two counts of rape, as well as charges of domestic violence, threats, drug-related offenses, and traffic violations. One of the rape incidents occurred in 2018 in Skågum. Prosecutors had sought a harsher penalty, pushing for more than seven years behind bars.

During the proceedings, Høiby admitted to the facts of the threats and beatings, and also confessed to transporting 3.5 kilograms of marijuana. In August 2025, it emerged that he had been accused of 32 crimes, including four rapes. The court’s ruling marks a major step in a case that has captivated both the public and the media.

Public Reaction and Broader Implications

This sentence highlights the gravity of sexual violence crimes and has sparked widespread public debate, especially given that the convicted individual is a member of the royal family. Such cases often challenge the monarchy’s image and reputation, while also fueling discussions about accountability for public figures.

Additionally, the verdict may influence future conversations around legislation on sexual and domestic violence in Norway, potentially prompting legal reforms.
