Syrian rebels launched a major offensive in Aleppo province - NYT.

The largest attack by rebels on government forces in recent years is ongoing in Syria. This could lead to an escalation of the civil war in the country. According to The New York Times, the offensive began in Aleppo province, and the rebels have already managed to capture several new villages. The aim of this operation is to stop attacks from government forces and their Iranian allies, reported rebel commander Hasan Abdulghani.

In the last two days, more than 150 fighters from both sides have died in clashes: about 100 rebels and 54 government soldiers, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Additionally, more than ten civilians have lost their lives due to Syrian and Russian airstrikes.

Various rebel groups are involved in the attack, including Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, which was previously linked to the 'Al-Qaeda' organization, as well as groups supported by Turkey. Syrian state media reported that the government is repelling a 'large-scale terrorist attack' on villages, cities, and military facilities.

According to Iranian media, during the attack, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps was killed.
