On Tuesday, July 15, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law regarding the increase of responsibility for corruption offenses (No. 4496-IX). The law aims to make the anti-corruption system more effective.
The head of state Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law aimed at increasing responsibility for corrupt activities. Amendments to the Criminal Code and other laws are aimed at eliminating corruption and improving the anti-corruption system.
Changes in the law on combating corruption
The law introduces a number of changes that make the fight against corruption more effective and stricter:
- New thresholds of responsibility for false declaration established;
- The threshold of assets for recognition of illegal enrichment has been reduced;
- The list of officials who can be punished has been expanded;
- Improved control over the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office;
- Clear time limits for storing information in the Register of Corrupt Officials have been established and exclusion procedures defined;
- Drafting is prohibited for persons accused of serious corruption crimes.
Other legislative steps
It is evident that the President of Ukraine is actively signing legislative acts aimed at improving the situation in the country. This move is yet another step towards a more transparent and honest Ukraine.
