Infantry Now Covers 15 km on Foot: Syrsky Draws Parallels Between Current War and World War I Due to Drones.
Modern Warfare and Its New Demands
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky has highlighted that today's conflict increasingly mirrors World War I, largely because of the widespread use of drones. This shift is dramatically altering combat tactics, forcing soldiers to advance on foot. Under these conditions, infantry troops now have to march 10–15 kilometers to carry out their missions.
Syrsky’s Frontline Visit
On June 19, Oleksandr Syrsky visited Ukrainian units stationed at several critical points along the front. During the trip, he described the war as a constant contest of technology, economies, and resources. He specifically noted that Ukrainian forces are now barely using armored vehicles, and artillery deployment has also dropped significantly.
Faced with these new challenges, military personnel are seeking ways to counter drones, with one approach being the development of active protection systems capable of shooting down UAVs autonomously.
The situation at the front demands tactical adaptation and the integration of emerging technologies, underscoring the growing importance of innovation in modern warfare.
Syrsky’s remarks reflect a fundamental shift in the nature of contemporary combat, where technology plays a decisive role. The use of drones not only shapes operational decisions but also compels armies to rethink their fighting strategies. Strengthening air defense and developing new protective measures have become top priorities for Ukraine’s military in response to these evolving threats.
