Monument for Fallen Hero Sparks Controversy: Ex-Wife Accuses Brother of Misusing Funds.
Fundraising for Memorial Draws Criticism
According to TSN.ua: Tamara, the former wife of Maksym Nelipa, has raised concerns about a fundraising campaign led by his brother, Andriy Nelipa. She claims the money collected is not being used for its intended purpose. Maksym Nelipa died in the spring of 2025, and shortly after his death, Andriy announced a campaign to raise 150,000 Ukrainian hryvnias for a tombstone.
Tamara Nelipa emphasized that Andriy has not provided any financial reports on the funds raised, which has caused her significant worry. She stated:
“There are questions for Andriy—Maksym’s brother—who has been collecting money for various cards for a long time, supposedly for other people’s needs, but it looks more like it’s for his own benefit.”
These remarks show that Tamara approaches the fundraising with great caution and stresses the urgent need for transparency in financial matters.
Outrage Over Missing Financial Reports
Additionally, Tamara expressed frustration over the lack of accountability for previously collected funds, noting:
“Where are the reports for the earlier (and substantial) funds that were raised? Couldn’t at least a portion have been set aside for the monument?”
These statements highlight her doubts about how the donated money has been used and her demand for clarity regarding the finances tied to Maksym Nelipa’s memorial.
This situation underscores the critical importance of transparency in fundraising, especially for memorials and commemorative projects. A lack of reporting can erode trust among those who wish to support such initiatives. It is essential that all parties involved adhere to ethical standards and provide clear information on how collected funds are spent, in order to prevent similar conflicts in the future.
