New AC Installation Rules for Ukrainians: What Requires Approval.
Installing Air Conditioners in Ukraine: Regulations and Permissions
According to Novyny.live: As summer approaches, more Ukrainians are considering installing air conditioners, but they must first review current regulations and secure the necessary approvals. Before mounting an AC unit in 2026, it's essential to understand that a multi-story building's facade is considered shared property of all co-owners. This means installation requires coordination with the building's homeowners' association (OSBB), housing cooperative (ZHK), or management company.
While there is no official permit for AC installation, written consent is mandatory. This is especially relevant in Lviv, where units on facades facing central streets need special authorization. At the same time, specific installation standards must be followed, including attention to:
- proper condensate drainage;
- acceptable locations for the outdoor unit;
- the equipment's visual appearance.
Prohibitions and Recommendations
Additionally, it's important to note that outdoor AC units are banned from certain spots. They cannot be placed:
- above building entrances;
- near neighbors' windows;
- on structurally unsafe sections of the facade.
Following these rules helps avoid misunderstandings and ensures comfortable living for all residents of the apartment building.
These updated AC installation rules are becoming increasingly relevant as temperatures rise and the need for comfortable living conditions grows. The requirement to coordinate with OSBBs or ZHKs highlights the importance of neighborly cooperation to prevent conflicts and maintain building aesthetics. Adhering to these standards not only streamlines the installation process but also fosters good relationships within residential complexes.
