Czech Politicians Unite to Oust Speaker over Pro-Russian Remarks.
According to ТСН: Czech politicians have united to speak out against the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura, due to his New Year’s speech, where he reiterated Kremlin propaganda and expressed negativity towards the leadership of the European Union. Opposition parties have already begun preparations for an official procedure for his dismissal.
Opposition Actions
Next week, the Pirates Party, along with other opposition colleagues, will start collecting signatures for a vote on Okamura's resignation. The leader of the Pirates, Zdenek Gryzib, noted that the anti-Ukrainian statements of the speaker are unacceptable for a person in such a position. He was supported by representatives of the coalition, including the ODS party of Prime Minister Petr Fiala, who described the speech as a dangerous manipulation.
Outrageous Statements by Okamura
Particular outrage was caused by Okamura's words suggesting that Brussels is allegedly trying to unleash World War III. He also called the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, 'crazy'. The Czech government emphasized that such statements damage the international image of the country and play into the hands of the aggressor. Deputy chairman of the TOP 09 party, Marek Zenisek, characterized the speaker's speech as a 'bucket of Russian hatred' and urged deputies not to ignore it.
Special Resolution
Czech deputies are also preparing a special resolution that will officially confirm that the Chamber of Deputies does not support the views of its chairman and distances itself from his statements. Tomio Okamura, for his part, denies all accusations, claiming that the opposition is trying to distract attention from internal problems in the Czech Republic.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, also expressed his position regarding the scandalous remarks of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.
The situation surrounding Tomio Okamura's statements has provoked a serious reaction in the Czech political sphere, highlighting how important it is to meet the demands of the current political environment. The continuation of the review of this issue could potentially influence further political processes in the Czech Republic and its relations with international partners.
