Ukrainian President’s Visit to Brussels

According to UATV: Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s president, is attending the Ukraine Defense Contact Group session held at NATO’s Brussels headquarters. His visit began on June 17, with scheduled meetings including Belgium’s King Philippe and Prime Minister Bart De Wever. The Contact Group session is expected to start around 16:00 Kyiv time.

Zelenskyy has already met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. During their discussion, Rutte addressed the front-line situation, highlighting the scale of Russian military losses.

“Ukraine is performing well. We see reports of how many losses the Russian army suffers each month—currently around 30,000 to 35,000 per month, which is simply incredible,” Rutte stated.

The president also emphasized commitments made during the G7 summit, noting key priorities for collaboration with partners.

“The main focus is strengthening our defense and securing a license from the United States to produce air defense systems,” Zelenskyy stressed.

Additionally, Belgium’s Defense Ministry has announced the delivery of seven F-16 fighter jets by year’s end. The Ramstein-format meeting is set for June 18, forming a crucial part of Zelenskyy’s agenda in Brussels.

Significance of the Visit

Zelenskyy’s trip to Brussels marks a pivotal moment in international support for Ukraine, particularly regarding its military needs. Engagements with top NATO and Belgian officials underscore Ukraine’s active push to secure advanced defense equipment, such as F-16 jets. Participation in the Contact Group also highlights the global community’s sustained focus on aiding Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.
