Washington Scandal: Trump-Ordered $14 Million Pool Refurbishment Now Overrun with Algae.
Controversy Erupts Over the Reflecting Pool
According to Espreso.tv: A fresh scandal is unfolding in Washington, D.C., surrounding the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial. Following a renovation project personally championed by Donald Trump, the iconic water feature has become overrun with algae. The overhaul cost taxpayers more than $14 million, but the results have sparked serious concerns about workmanship and oversight. Soon after completion, the water began turning green and the lining started peeling, drawing public outrage.
Green Water Solutions was awarded a $1.74 million contract for the work, while Atlantic Industrial Coatings secured a $14.7 million contract for waterproofing—a figure that later ballooned by an additional $1.54 million due to extra payments, raising further questions about financial management. The Reflecting Pool, situated at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, is one of the capital’s most visited landmarks.
Quality Failures and Fallout
Testing confirmed the presence of Desmodesmus algae in the pool, underscoring the poor quality of the reconstruction. Trump stated in a public statement that the project was expected to take four years but that his team completed it in roughly a month and a half. Despite the speed, the outcome has failed to meet expectations.
In response to the situation, Trump announced the arrest of six individuals possibly linked to damaging the pool. Among those detained is 67-year-old Olympian David Hearn, who is also suspected of involvement. The controversy continues to generate heated debate, especially with the 250th anniversary of the United States approaching on July 4th.
“The Reflecting Pool scandal highlights the critical need for quality control in public projects, especially when massive budgets are at stake.”
The mismanagement of funds and poor execution could have far-reaching consequences for public trust in government initiatives. As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, pressure is mounting on authorities to address these issues and restore confidence in the stewardship of culturally significant sites.
