How much money does Ukraine need for the exhumation of the Volyn tragedy victims: Drobych's statement.
The Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers with a request to allocate funds for search works
The Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Anton Drobych, appealed to the government of Ukraine with a request to allocate at least one million hryvnias for search works within the framework of the exhumation of the Volyn tragedy victims. He stated this during a national marathon.
«I asked the government to allocate a separate program for search works with an amount of not less than one million hryvnias. If Polish citizens appeal to us, we will try to help them», - said the head of the institute.
Drobych added that for many years Poland has failed to create working groups or interdepartmental commissions, so Polish citizens are desperately appealing to Ukraine for help.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory has not received official appeals from Poland regarding the exhumation of the Volyn tragedy victims.
Earlier, Ukrainian authorities agreed to the start of search and exhumation works at the graves of Poles killed by the UPA in 1945 in the town of Puznyky in Podolia.
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Ukraine would not be able to join the European Union without resolving the issue of the 1943 Volyn tragedy, but Polish President Andrzej Duda criticized this statement.
It is also known that Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky actively discussed the exhumation of the Volyn tragedy victims, which almost led to a conflict between them.
