According to TSN.ua: In response to security risks stemming from the war in Ukraine, Slovakia has begun modernizing its Cold War-era nuclear bunkers. Prime Minister Robert Fico insists there is no direct threat from Russia, stating,

"There is nothing to worry about regarding Russia."

Revitalizing Protective Structures

Work is underway in Nitra to restore old protective shelters, with local authorities repairing 17 shelters annually since 2022. For context, Ukraine currently has about 1,500 protective facilities, designed to shelter 250,000 people, underscoring the severity of the regional situation.
