Stiffer Fines for Speeding in Ukraine: Here’s What Drivers Could Pay.
Crackdown on Speeding Offenses
According to Novyny.live: The Ukrainian government is moving to toughen penalties for drivers who repeatedly exceed speed limits, urging lawmakers to approve higher fines and an expansion of the automated camera network. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has backed the initiative, emphasizing the need for parliamentary support. Ukraine has seen a rise in road fatalities, prompting this push for stricter enforcement.
"It is critically important for us that parliament members support stronger penalties for those drivers who systematically violate speed limits."

Her statement follows a deadly crash that occurred on June 5 in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, near Karavaevi Dachi, which claimed four lives.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed that a draft law has already been prepared. "As of today, a draft to strengthen responsibility for speeding on roads is ready. So, supporting the Prime Minister, I am in favor of increasing that liability," he stated.
What Changes Are Expected
Authorities hope these measures will reduce traffic accidents and improve road safety across Ukraine. The Interior Ministry is actively working on the initiative, which also includes deploying more automated speed cameras to deter violations and enhance traffic monitoring.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine must now review the proposed amendments, which could significantly impact the country's road safety landscape.
These legislative changes are part of a broader government program to improve traffic safety in Ukraine, a growing concern amid a rising number of accidents. Stiffer fines and advanced violation-detection technology could mark a major step toward lowering crash rates and fostering better driving habits nationwide.
