Up to 400,000 UAH in Extra Pay for Soldiers: Zelenskyy Unveils Contract Overhaul.
Military Pay Increases Announced
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a substantial boost in military compensation alongside a sweeping reform of service contracts. Under the new measures, personnel stationed in rear areas will receive a minimum of 30,000 hryvnias, while those on the front lines can expect average payments of 300,000 hryvnias. Infantry troops have been promised up to 400,000 hryvnias. These changes come as Ukraine continues to adapt its armed forces to the demands of the ongoing war.
Contract Reform Details
Overhauling the contract system is a key component of the initiative. Enlistment periods will now be set at 10, 14, or 24 months. On April 10, Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko outlined the contract reform, emphasizing that soldiers' salaries will be tied directly to their specific roles and duties. Zelenskyy stressed that
“contracts will be crafted to ensure absolute clarity.”
The government intends to roll out the first new supplementary payments as early as June this year. Zelenskyy noted that
“there are resources available to increase army pay,”adding that “everything rests on Ukraine’s infantry.” These steps form part of a broader strategy to modernize the military amid current challenges.
The pay hikes and contract reforms demonstrate the Ukrainian government’s drive to strengthen its forces and improve service conditions during the protracted conflict. These changes could boost morale and encourage more recruits to enlist, which is critical for sustaining the country’s defense capabilities.
