Slovakia Extends Temporary Protection for Ukrainians Through March 2027.
Ukrainians Granted Extended Protection in Slovakia
According to TSN.ua: In February 2025, the Slovak government, acting on a proposal from its Ministry of Interior, approved an extension of temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens. This status will now remain in effect until March 4, 2027. This extension allows Ukrainians to legally reside in Slovakia with access to social benefits, healthcare, and education. This move aligns Slovakia with other EU nations providing refuge to those displaced by the war in Ukraine.
Documentation Process
To obtain this protection, individuals must first register their status. Upon registration, they receive an A4 paper confirmation, which is valid for a maximum of 90 days. It is strongly recommended to apply for the official residency card promptly to avoid potential legal or administrative complications later. The Slovak authorities have streamlined this process to assist the significant number of Ukrainian arrivals.
Consequently, this extension offers greater stability and a clearer path for Ukrainian citizens to integrate into Slovak society, safeguarding their rights and social conditions during their stay.
This decision forms part of a broader European policy of support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis.
Providing temporary protection not only demonstrates solidarity with those affected by the war but also fosters their integration into a new environment, which is crucial for the future development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Slovakia.
