Guard's Deadly Mistake in Czech Prison: Inmates Poisoned by Disinfectant.
Poisoning Incident at a Correctional Facility
According to Espreso.tv: On May 10, a correctional officer distributed a disinfectant solution to inmates, leading to the hospitalization of three men and the death of one. The guard had poured the liquid into plastic bottles, which were later consumed by prisoners. The solution contained ethanol and hydrogen peroxide.
Investigation and Aftermath
The preliminary cause of death for one inmate was determined to be brain swelling. In response, the Czech Republic's General Inspectorate of Security Forces launched an investigation. A criminal case has been opened on suspicion of offenses against life and health.
Jakub Augusta stated, 'I can confirm that the inspectorate has taken the case into proceedings and is now handling it.'
This tragic event highlights the critical need for strict safety protocols in detention facilities, especially regarding the handling of chemical substances. The incident may lead to serious legal and administrative consequences for the prison and those responsible. The ongoing probe by the General Inspectorate of Security Forces could uncover systemic issues in inmate safety management and oversight.
