Protests in the USA over the murder of a woman by an ICE agent: demonstrations spread to major cities.
According to ТСН: Mass protests took place in the USA in response to the murder of a 37-year-old woman involving an officer from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis.
The protest initially occurred in Minneapolis, and later major cities like Miami and San Francisco joined in, where people demanded justice and accountability.
“I believe it is important not to become indifferent to what is happening and not to accept it passively. We have normalized what is happening through the media,” said Engel Montavelo from the Miami People's Progressive Committee.
What Happened
On January 7, an officer from the U.S. Immigration Service (ICE) shot a woman in her car in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Minnesota City Council identified the deceased as Rene Nicole Good. She described herself on social media as a “poet, writer, wife, and mother” from Colorado, leaving behind a six-year-old child.
In his statement on social media, the President of the USA noted that the incident video shows the woman “brutally, deliberately, and sneakily hitting an ICE officer, who apparently fired at her in self-defense”.
However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey categorically denied these claims, stating that the video of the incident contradicts what he called the “garbage narrative” of the government.
This situation has sparked widespread public resonance and reopened the issue of police use of force, as well as the consequences such actions can have for the community. The protests that began in Minneapolis raised important questions about justice and accountability for law enforcement agencies, which, according to the participants in the rallies, should be held accountable for their actions to the community.
