U.S. Deploys B-52 and B-1B Bombers to UK Base for Strikes Against Iran.
Strategic Bombers Deployed to the United Kingdom
According to TSN.ua: In a significant escalation of Operation Epic Fury, the United States has positioned strategic B-52 and B-1B bombers at the UK's RAF Fairford airbase to conduct strikes against Iran. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Haggett announced a planned increase in the intensity of the air campaign. This deployment underscores the deepening U.S. military commitment in the region.
Five B-1B and three B-52 bombers have arrived at RAF Fairford. The decision to utilize this British base was approved by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The current U.S. Air Force strategic bomber fleet consists of:
- 76 B-52H bombers
- 45 B-1B Lancers
- 19 B-2 Spirits
To further bolster its long-range strike capabilities, the Pentagon also plans to acquire approximately 100 new Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider bombers.
U.S. Costs and Future Steps
According to Pentagon figures, the conflict with Iran has cost the U.S. at least $11.3 billion in its first six days. Secretary of Defense Pete Haggett stated that
"the intensity of airstrikes against Iran will increase significantly". Given this, stealth bombers like the B-2 may also be brought into the campaign to enhance strike effectiveness.
The reinforcement of the bombing campaign signals a clear U.S. intent to sustain active operations. The situation remains tense, and future American actions could substantially impact the broader regional dynamic. The deployment of these heavy bombers from a NATO ally's territory represents a major strategic move. Such a show of force, while aimed at deterring Iran, risks escalating regional tensions and will be closely watched by the international community, potentially affecting relations with both allies and adversaries.
