The USA has imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian oil industry: who has been affected.
The US Department of the Treasury is introducing new sanctions against the Russian oil industry
On January 10, 2025, the US Department of the Treasury announced the introduction of a new package of sanctions against the Russian oil industry. As a result, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, as well as more than 250 individuals and legal entities, have been included in the sanctions list.
Key sanctions measures:
- Blocking sanctions against PJSC 'Gazprom Neft' and its subsidiaries
- Inclusion of PJSC 'Surgutneftegas' in the SDN list
- Sanctions against over 180 vessels involved in the transportation of Russian oil
- Restrictions for oil traders and maritime insurance companies
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) also issued several general licenses allowing limited operations during the winding down of activity. In particular, a license was issued for operations related to the energy sector and a license for certain transactions in the field of civil nuclear energy.
The sanctions entail a complete blocking of the assets of companies that are under restrictions within the jurisdiction of the USA and prohibit American individuals from any transactions with them.
Reaction of the Office of the President of Ukraine
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, commented on the situation in his Telegram channel, noting that a 'strong blow to the Russian economy' is being prepared.
