In an official statement from the US Embassy, it is emphasized that the security situation in Venezuela remains unpredictable, despite the restoration of international flights. Americans still in the country are advised to leave as soon as possible.
US citizens are strongly recommended to take precautions and be aware of their surroundings.
"There are reports of armed militia groups known as Collectives setting up checkpoints and searching vehicles for signs of US citizenship or support for the United States. US citizens in Venezuela should remain vigilant and cautious while driving,"the embassy statement said.
There continues to be instability in power supply and public services in Venezuela, making conditions difficult for foreigners.
The US State Department has issued the highest travel warning for Venezuela – "Do Not Travel". The main dangers include unlawful detentions, torture in detention facilities, terrorism, kidnappings, high crime rates, civil unrest, and a critical health system.
As a reminder, the Russian diplomatic mission in Caracas was already closed in March 2019, making consular services unavailable and preventing US authorities from providing assistance to their citizens in the country.
Previously, Donald Trump commented on the detention of Nicolás Maduro and the departure of the Venezuelan leader from the country, emphasizing that the USA had conducted a successful operation against Venezuela. The Venezuelan Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino Lopez, claims that the country has become a target of military aggression from the USA, referring to attempts to attack civilian objects with combat helicopters.
Trump also commented on this special operation, stating:
"It was indeed a brilliant operation,"and emphasized the level of preparation and the efforts made.
The situation in Venezuela remains complicated, and the US government is trying to protect its citizens by providing them with all necessary information. Critical risks that may arise during their stay in the country require immediate action and caution from Americans staying in Venezuela.
