Ukrainian mobile operators continue to be in the pilot and testing stage of the 5G network. According to Alexander Tkach, director of the quality management department at Vodafone, there is currently no urgent need for a mass launch of 5G.

According to him, the 5G network can already be used for two purposes. Firstly, it can be used as a business solution within large industrial enterprises. Secondly, 5G can be implemented in certain areas of large cities where there is high traffic due to many people with smartphones. Testing the implementation of this technology in such places may begin in the second half of 2025, and a full launch is possible after this period.

According to the director, the reason for the lack of mass 5G launch is that there are currently not enough customers who have devices that support 5G. Additionally, there is currently no demand for mass online services that require such high internet speeds that 5G can provide. Thus, for most users, 4G is sufficient speed.

It was previously announced that Lviv would be the first city for testing 5G, and if everything goes successfully, the project will be expanded to Kyiv and Odesa.

Testing the use of 5G in Ukraine will last for two years. During this Time, potential impacts of 5G equipment on military networks will be checked. It is worth noting that 5G can transmit data 10 times faster than 4G, making this project an important step towards the full launch of 5G in Ukraine, which is planned to be completed by 2030.

Earlier this year, a test launch of the 5G network took place in Ukraine. This became possible thanks to the joint work of the Promprylad innovation center, Vodafone's office in Kyiv, and Nokia's office in Helsinki.

Recall that the government began preparing the population for the transition to next-generation communication. For this purpose, a 5G Lab was launched, where one can familiarize themselves with and test the 5G network.
