The wealth of billionaires grew three times faster last year than in 2023.
Billionaires' fortunes increased by $2 trillion
According to Oxfam's research, billionaires' wealth globally increased by $2 trillion last year. In 2024, 204 new billionaires emerged, averaging nearly four newcomers per week. In 2024, the total wealth of billionaires grew three times faster than in 2023. Each billionaire became $2 million richer per day, while the ten richest billionaires gained $100 million each day.
However, the research also indicates that over the next decade, the number of trillionaires will rise by at least five individuals. Meanwhile, the number of people living in poverty has hardly changed since 1990.
Most of the wealth of billionaires is inherited rather than earned: 60% comes either from inheritance, corrupt activities, or monopolistic power - as noted in the Oxfam report, which addresses issues of poverty and injustice worldwide.
It is also noted that Elon Musk became the first person whose wealth exceeded $400 billion. His fortune began to grow from the end of 2022 after Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election. One day after the election, he gained $26.5 billion due to the rise in Tesla Inc. shares.
It is also worth noting that Czech dollar millionaires are increasingly becoming investors. They believe in the stocks of foreign companies and often choose industries in which they are knowledgeable or operate businesses.
