New Defense Strategy from Ukraine: Loss Audits and Interceptor Drones Take Center Stage.
Why Ukraine’s Defense System Must Be Restructured
According to Novyny.live: On March 15, Serhii Sternenko, an advisor to Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, called for a fundamental overhaul of the country’s defense framework. He stressed the urgent need to conduct a thorough audit of military losses and to integrate cutting-edge technologies to boost defensive effectiveness. According to Sternenko, this is the top priority—a point also echoed by Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation.
Russia’s Internal Struggles and Their Impact on Ukraine
Sternenko also addressed the situation in Russia, where over the past three months, authorities have faced growing difficulties in recruiting paid military volunteers. He noted that the likelihood of Russia declaring a full-scale mobilization remains extremely low.
'Sooner or later, our enemy will face a dilemma—either announce mobilization and risk an even greater outflow of its population,' — Serhii Sternenko.
In Ukraine, according to his remarks, air defense effectiveness has improved. Specifically, interceptor drones are now capable of shooting down up to 30% of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles. Sternenko emphasized the importance of an honest and sober assessment of the situation:
'We must answer ourselves honestly and soberly, without building illusions about whether the enemy will stop. And we say no, it will not stop on its own.' — Serhii Sternenko.
In summary, Sternenko urged a reform of Ukraine’s defense system, highlighting the critical role of modern technology and objective loss evaluations to strengthen the country’s defensive capabilities amid the ongoing threat from Russia.
Sternenko’s statements underscore the urgent need for Ukraine to adapt its defense strategies to current challenges, especially in the context of the war with Russia. Conducting military loss audits and deploying new technologies could form the foundation for more effective defense—a pressing necessity given the persistent aggression. With Russia facing recruitment difficulties, Ukraine should focus on enhancing its own defensive capacities to ensure national security.
