Subaru Changes Strategy: Sports Innovations to be Presented at Tokyo Motor Show.
According to Korrespondent.net: Subaru will focus on the sporty character of its vehicles at the 2026 Tokyo Motor Show, emphasizing speed, handling, and track modifications. It will showcase six models, including three special versions of series cars, as well as three vehicles designed for sports and rallying.
Special Subaru Models
The centerpiece of the exhibition will be two bright yellow cars - the WRX and Levorg in the STI Sport R-Black Limited II STI Performance Edition. Both models feature a new color, Sunrise Yellow, matte black 18-inch wheels, and tinted decorative elements: the grille, mirrors, and the antenna on the roof. Inside, they are equipped with Recaro sports seats with yellow perforation, black stitching, and suede-like material around the dashboard. While no power or suspension tuning changes have been announced yet, Subaru notes that both cars are equipped with branded accessories and STI Performance components.

New Impreza and Motorsports Vehicles
Another novelty will be the Impreza ST-H STI Performance Edition with the Plus body kit. This model is based on the ST-H trim but is enhanced with STI Performance elements that improve handling and give the car a more aggressive look. Although the car is shown in official images in the traditional Subaru blue, it will be presented at the stand in black with contrasting red accents in the interior. This Impreza is planned to be raffled among the visitors of the motor show - one of the guests who fills out a questionnaire will receive the car.
In addition to the series models, Subaru will also present three cars for motorsports. The most intriguing will be a completely new machine for the 2026 Super Taikyu Series season. While technical specifications have not yet been disclosed, it is known that the car will run on carbon-neutral fuel, has high dynamic performance, and will serve as a platform for testing next-generation technologies.
It will be joined by an updated BRZ GT300, ready to return to the Super GT championship, where Subaru hopes to compete for the title for the first time since 2021. The third sports exhibit will be the upgraded rally WRX VBH for the JN-1 All-Japan Rally Championship class.
Teasers and News
The surprises do not end here: leading up to the motor show opening on January 9, Subaru promises a series of teasers. The first of them features a blue WRX STI S4 with the characteristic sound of a manual transmission. This version is expected to appear in the brand's Japanese lineup in 2026, with details to be announced in the coming days.
Recall that the company previously presented two concepts for a sports STI.
Subaru is actively preparing for the Tokyo Motor Show, where it plans to present many innovations that promise to impress fans of motorsport. The special models designed for the tracks, along with the vehicles for motorsport, emphasize the brand's commitment to innovation and high performance. Subaru products have always offered not only style but also dynamics, and the new models confirm this trend.Read also
