Ukrainian Court Convicts Civil Servant for Justifying Russian Aggression on Telegram.
Civil Servant Sentenced in Odesa
According to Novyny.live: A court in Odesa has convicted a female civil servant for using private messages to justify Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. The woman, who was born in Potsdam, Germany, pleaded guilty and reached a plea agreement with the prosecutor. The exchanges took place in the Telegram messenger app in November 2024, where she employed the term 'special operation' and endorsed the narrative of 'overthrowing the Kyiv regime.'
Trial Proceedings and Sentence
During the court hearing on February 19, 2026, the woman formalized her guilty plea agreement. The court sentenced her to five years of imprisonment. However, considering the circumstances of the case, she was released on probation for a period of two years.
As a voluntary part of the agreement, she also transferred 20,000 hryvnias to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The civil servant's statement,
'And the special operation is the overthrow of the Kyiv regime,'was entered into the case file. This case underscores the ongoing efforts within Ukraine to counter propaganda that supports aggression. Such legal actions are part of a broader response to information warfare since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
This verdict illustrates how the Ukrainian legal system is addressing instances of propaganda that justify aggression against the state. The guilty plea and cooperation with the prosecutor indicate an attempt by the individual to work with authorities, as well as the potential for a reduced sentence in cases of genuine remorse. Cases of this nature are becoming a significant element in the fight against disinformation and in supporting Ukraine's national security.
