'Look for another sucker': Trump harshly responded to BRICS over the dollar.
US President-elect Donald Trump commented on possible currency maneuvers by BRICS countries.
In a post on the social network 'Truth Social', he warned member countries of the bloc about possible negative economic consequences if they decide to abandon the US dollar in international transactions.
Trump stated that if BRICS countries try to create an alternative currency or support other currency mechanisms, the US will impose a 100% tariff on imports of goods from those countries.
'We demand guarantees from these states that they will not create a new BRICS currency and will not support any other currency instead of the powerful US dollar,' the politician emphasized.
According to Trump, any attempt to replace the dollar in international trade would lead to the offending countries 'potentially losing their economy to the US'.
The politician stressed that in the current conditions, there is no possibility to oust the dollar in BRICS, and any country that attempts to do so will face serious problems in its relations with the US.
It was previously reported that Trudeau met with Trump amid trade threats.
