Massive Shelling Hits Sumy Region: 44 Attacks in 24 Hours Leave One Dead and Several Injured.
Sumy Region Under Fire
According to UATV: On March 28, 2023, Russian forces launched a series of strikes on Ukraine's Sumy region, tragically killing a 20-year-old woman and severely wounding her 6-year-old sister. The attacks also injured two other civilians: a 58-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man. Over the course of a single day, 44 separate shelling incidents were recorded across the Sumy, Shostka, Konotop, Okhtyrka, and Romny districts.
Broader Attacks on Ukraine
In addition to the regional assault, Russia carried out a nationwide attack on March 27-28, deploying 273 combat drones—approximately 180 of which were Iranian-made Shahed models. This escalation, part of a years-long campaign of aggression, has inflicted devastating consequences on local communities. The situation in the region remains critical, as ongoing strikes on civilian infrastructure continue to threaten residents' lives and safety.
These bombardments underscore the severe humanitarian crisis in Sumy Oblast, where the population endures constant danger:
- Lack of security and stability is driving rising stress levels among local inhabitants.
- Social infrastructure is being systematically disrupted.
Such events have sparked international concern and highlight the urgent need for aid to those affected by the conflict.
