Reynaldo's red card in the match against Aston Villa

Reynaldo, unhappy with being fouled, struck Cash in the intimate area.

Referee Sam Barrott noted the foul and sent off the Mozambique player.

The decision was reviewed by VAR and confirmed: 'the contact with Cash was deemed clear violence.'

Despite numerous protests from Reynaldo, he eventually left the field.

This defender joined Sunderland from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Prior to the red card, Reynaldo had played every minute in the Premier League for the 'Black Cats' this season.

Reaction from the head coach

The sending off forced Sunderland's coach Regis Le Bris to make urgent adjustments to the lineup.

Chris Rigg was substituted in the 37th minute to add another defender – Dan Ballard.

This incident undoubtedly angered Le Bris, as Reynaldo has significant experience in top-level football.

He has played in 25 Champions League matches during his stints with Lille and Atletico Madrid.

Reynaldo had never received a red card in 103 matches for Atletico, although he was sent off on the first day of the 2020-21 season for a harsh foul on Rennes player Rafinha.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw when Reynaldo was sent off.

Le Bris's team managed to reach halftime, maintaining the draw.
