A Priest with an MBA: Why the Church Needs to Be Active on Social Media.
Why Media and Education Matter for the Church
According to Espreso.tv: Father Rostyslav Pendiuk, a priest and administrator of the Parish of the Nativity of John the Baptist in Vynnyky, near Lviv, discusses the critical role of modern media for the church, the need for educational programs for clergy, and how business training fits into contemporary ministry. He argues that the church must actively engage on social platforms to connect with believers. As he puts it,
“If we are not present on social media—across different platforms—and if we don’t reach out to people, they simply won’t notice us.”
Father Rostyslav also stresses the importance of clergy education. He himself completed the Key Executive MBA program, reflecting his commitment to professional growth. In Ukraine, over 100 priests have graduated from the MAPA (Youth Apostolate of the Parish) program, highlighting a growing interest in business education within church circles.
Projects and Initiatives Led by Father Rostyslav
Among the projects he has launched is the 'Wind of Hope' festival, revived in 2019. This event brings together more than 60 activities and 150 speakers, showcasing the church’s active role in public life. Father Rostyslav notes,
“It’s about doing the right things right,”emphasizing the importance of a responsible approach to ministry and community engagement.
Father Rostyslav Pendiuk’s efforts to integrate modern media and educational programs into church life reflect a broader trend toward innovation in the religious sphere. This approach can help the church not only maintain ties with existing believers but also attract younger generations seeking relevant and accessible ways to express their spiritual needs. The focus on business education for priests also signals the church’s drive for professional development and effective management in today’s society.
