The market for driverless taxis will grow 15 times: when will they appear in Ukraine

As of 2025, the global market for driverless taxis powered by artificial intelligence is estimated to be nearly 3 billion dollars. According to analysts' forecasts, it may grow more than 15 times in just five years.

In an interview with

Delo.ua
, Uklon CEO Serhiy Gryshkov discussed how the global market for driverless taxis will develop and when such vehicles may appear in Ukraine.

What are the prospects for robotaxis in the coming years

Driverless taxis are already operating in the USA, China, and Israel, while companies are actively testing new models. For example, Tesla is preparing to launch its service in San Francisco, while Waymo is already completing over a million rides monthly in California. In Europe, the Lyft service plans to launch robotaxis in 2026 together with the Chinese company Baidu.

According to Grand View Research, by 2030, the market for autonomous taxis will reach 43.8 billion dollars. And according to McKinsey forecasts, by 2035, such cars will serve up to 10% of passenger transportation globally.

When may driverless taxis appear in Ukraine and what is needed for this

In Ukraine, such technologies may appear in a limited format within the next few years. Uklon CEO Serhiy Gryshkov stated that the company is considering the possibility of collaboration with developers of autonomous transport and expects this topic to become relevant in 3 to 5 years.

  • test the technologies;
  • create a clear legislative framework;
  • assess the needs for infrastructure investments.

In particular, quality roads, markings, and regulations similar to those in the USA and EU are important. The SAE scale is used worldwide to determine the level of autonomy of vehicles and the driver's role in control.

Gryshkov emphasizes that fully driverless cars remain a niche solution for now and will only be able to operate in specific conditions in the near future — for example, on closed routes or in military logistics.

Driverless taxis and vehicles powered by artificial intelligence are gaining popularity and actively developing worldwide. Although these technologies may appear in Ukraine in the coming years, their implementation will require a proper legislative and infrastructure basis as well as testing in real conditions. It is important to prepare the roads and create the necessary conditions for the safe and effective operation of driverless vehicles in the future.
