Taiwan Prepares for Urban Combat with China - How the Drills Took Place.
The Taiwanese army has begun training for urban combat in preparation for a potential Chinese invasion. The annual 'Han Kuang' drills focus on more realistic scenarios for defending major cities. This is reported by the Financial Times.
This year, Taiwan's armed forces have utilized urban public transport to prepare for repelling a Chinese invasion. Units 'held the defense' right on the streets of the capital to better prepare for a possible Chinese attack and raise public awareness of what such a crisis would entail.
Instead of merely simulating the repulsion of invading Chinese forces from beaches and shorelines, as in the past, the military this year practiced how to respond if the maneuvers carried out by the People's Liberation Army of China near Taiwan almost daily suddenly escalated into an attack, writes the Financial Times.
Elsewhere in the city, the army's logistics command used a rapid public transit system to deliver munitions and food from the eastern outskirts.
It has previously been reported that the Pentagon is awaiting a clear response from Japan and Australia regarding support for Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack. It has also been reported that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed concern over a possible provocation by China leading to armed conflict between Russia and NATO.
