According to The Sun: A shocking moment when a retiree behind the wheel of a car, likely under the influence of alcohol, crashed into the sea.

Stunned witnesses threw a life ring to the driver.
Fortunately, the woman was able to escape from the car and was helped to climb up the emergency ladder.

Police Sergeant Ray Matthews reported:
“The vehicle entered the water and sank. Fortunately, the only passenger in the car was able to escape and received assistance from the public.'
He also added that other charges are being considered.
Local medics noted that one person received assistance at the scene, but the condition of the woman is unknown.
Auckland Transport reported that the car was returned to its owner after being lifted.
It was also noted that they are assessing the damage to the bicycle shelter and plan for repairs.

“Our repair teams are ready to make a decision regarding replacement, before either removing the shelter or replacing damaged parts.”
