Tesla cancels the base version of the Cybertruck: what will be offered to buyers instead.
According to Korrespondent.net: Tesla unexpectedly canceled the base version of the Cybertruck with rear-wheel drive, which was considered the most economical modification of the electric pickup as recently as spring. According to Carscoops, the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version, which started at $69,990, is no longer available in the online configurator on the company's website.
This modification was equipped with only one electric motor and basic equipment: textile seats instead of leather, seven speakers instead of 15, and no additional screen in the back, 120/240 V outlets, and automatic cover.
Pros and cons of the version
However, this model had one advantage — its range was 563 km, which is more than other options. But its towing characteristics were worse: the payload capacity was 910 kg compared to 1133 kg for the all-wheel-drive version, and the maximum trailer weight was 3401 kg vs. 4989 kg.
It seems that the compromise between range and limited capabilities was the reason many buyers opted for more expensive modifications. Those who planned to purchase the base version can now only turn to the secondary market or are willing to spend on the all-wheel-drive variant, which starts at $79,990, while the top model Cyberbeast is priced at $114,990.
It was previously reported that Tesla also removed the option to order the Cybertruck with an increased range.
