Ukraine Launches 5G Trials: What to Expect for Internet Speeds.
5G Technology Testing Begins in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine has initiated trials for 5G technology, a move set to significantly enhance mobile internet speeds. The pilot project launched in Borodianka and Lviv, with plans to extend coverage to Odesa by December 2026. Testing in Lviv commenced in early January 2026, attracting over 80,000 user connections to the 5G network within the first day alone. This rollout is part of a broader European trend of next-generation network deployment, bringing Ukraine in line with regional technological advancements.
The pilot in Borodianka covers the city's central area. Across Ukraine, 35 5G base stations have already been installed. More than 25% of smartphones used by Ukrainians are compatible with 5G technology. The pilot phase is scheduled to run until December 2026, providing a crucial window to implement new technologies and improve mobile internet quality for users.
Future Expansion and Economic Impact
Cities under consideration for the next phase of 5G deployment include Odesa, which will expand access to cutting-edge technology for an even larger population. The 5G trials in Ukraine represent a significant step toward modernizing the nation's telecommunications and developing its digital infrastructure.
The implementation of 5G in Ukraine marks a pivotal stage in upgrading mobile connectivity and internet speed for the public. The planned expansion to new cities like Odesa demonstrates the commitment of the state and mobile operators to modernize infrastructure and make advanced technology accessible to more people.
This development is expected to positively impact the economy, business, and daily life of Ukrainians, as high-speed internet becomes increasingly vital in the modern world.
